Ready to travel

A trained dog must arrive in good health, with an accurate record. At SANVIA K9, the health record is genuine: verifiable age, original microchip, up-to-date vaccinations. Here is what we do, and why.

No. 01

European pet passport

Issued by an authorised veterinarian, it proves the dog's identity and the validity of its rabies vaccination.

  • Description of the dog, including its date of birth
  • Original microchip (transponder number)
  • Health record, including rabies vaccination
  • Contact details of the owner and of the issuing veterinarian

Outside the European Union, health requirements are set by the country of destination: the passport alone is not enough, which is why we prepare the export file with you.

No. 02

Vaccines

Vaccines against the core canine diseases, complemented by three vaccinations, each for a specific reason. Kennel cough vaccination is given even when it is not required.

Kennel cough

Vaccine against Bordetella bronchiseptica and canine parainfluenza virus.

Kennel cough has several causative agents and spreads quickly where dogs live close together: kennels, training centres. Vaccination reduces the risk and severity of the disease.

Leptospirosis

L4 vaccine, covering four serogroups of leptospira.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that can also affect humans; it spreads through the urine of infected animals, particularly rodents. Leptospira survive in fresh water and muddy soil. In dogs, it attacks the liver and kidneys and is often fatal without treatment.

Rabies

Rabies vaccination, after identification of the dog.

Rabies is a viral disease of the nervous system, fatal in virtually all cases once symptoms appear. According to the World Health Organization, dogs are the source of the vast majority of human cases, and Africa is among the most affected regions. Vaccination is required for travel.

No. 03

Deworming treatment given before departure

The dog is dewormed before departure. Working dogs, which live in kennels and work in contact with nature, are particularly exposed.

  • Roundworms (ascarids)
  • Hookworms
  • Whipworms
  • Tapeworms, including Echinococcus
  • Some of these worms (Toxocara, hookworms, Echinococcus) are transmissible to humans

No. 04

Transport

The dog travels in good conditions, all the way to the aircraft. Vaccines, passports, crates and flights are prepared for all the dogs together, in line with the regulations, under a single file.

Transport crate supplied

A crate suited to the dog, compliant with IATA requirements for the transport of live animals and with those of the airline.

Transport to the airport

We arrange the dog's transport to the departure airport.

Export file

Health certificates and customs documents prepared with you for the country of destination.

Regulations

Import, export and transport are arranged in compliance with the health and customs regulations of the countries concerned; we prepare the file with you.
